Located in the northern of the city of Cagliari, the campus for the University of Cagliari occupies 200,000 sqm and houses 5500 students. When developing the masterplan, the University with all its departments is conceived as a mini-city. With the interconnected buildings and spaces, it realizes the interdisciplinary nature of education and learning that is at the heart of contemporary method of academic research and of contemporary social and cultural relationships.

The height of the buildings were maintained low in order to preserve the panoramic views.  The campus is composed of a main walkway with green terraces, connected with ramps, limited on two sides by three-storey buildings housing classrooms and laboratories on the ground floor; smaller classrooms with laboratories and study halls is located on the upper floor.

The study halls at the top floor are connected to the libraries, located in suspended blocks over the main walkway creating roofed plazas on the edges of the building blocks. The terraced courts at different levels distribute the advanced learning and research facilities. The faculty departments branch out from the central axis and the special wings with technical facilities, special equipment areas, etc are located at the end. The court contains all the academic facilities and represents a typical module block.
The building blocks were hence laid out in a honeycomb model: classrooms and other program areas located in the central axis; laboratories and advanced research facilities in the wings; recreational facilities and outdoor common areas connected the campus to the outer city.
